Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton Town Preview – Interview with @LewisT_Williams

Luton Town have started the season with a draw against Middlesbrough and losses to both Cardiff City and West Brom, how would rate that start?

It’s been a tough start to the season. Luton have had the hardest start on paper, playing against teams like Boro, Cardiff and West Brom. I’ve felt we have done well against very difficult sides, matching each team. Going forward, we look very dangerous but need to create more chances and stop giving away cheap goals that can be avoided.

What are your thoughts on Graeme Jones as a manager?

So far, so good. Makes his substitutions very early if things are not going our way. At the moment we are playing a different system from previous seasons, so the players are doing their best to embed into Jones’ philosophy. Very honest in his interviews as well, says it how it is rather than sugar-coating what has happened. He is getting the best out of the players but is still evaluating his best eleven.

How good was your summer transfer window?

Brillant. We needed Championship quality within the squad, and we got exactly that. We can’t compete with the majority of clubs in this league, so our recruitment had to be smart. Also, being a new team in this division means individual players may be prevented to come to the club as we are not yet an established club at this level. However, with this in mind, we have attracted very good players to come, i.e., Martin Crainie, Callum McManaman and Izzy Brown.

Which player should Wednesday look out for on Tuesday?

Izzy Brown. He isn’t 100% fit at the moment, but I’m very confident he will feature against Wednesday. His pace and movement can cause so many problems for the opposite team. The quality he has on the ball can split open any backline.

If you could have one Sheffield Wednesday player at Kenilworth Road, who would it be and why?

It’s between Westwood or Bannan. Both have quality at this level and will get into most teams’ starting eleven. I’m leading towards Bannan as I think he would improve our midfield massively.

What should Wednesday expect from the Luton Town side?

Playing from the back. Our fullbacks giving wingers time and space on the ball. I don’t know why we do this, but it causes so many problems for ourselves. We are also good at attacking set-pieces, coming back from losing positions and finishing scoring chances.

What is your match prediction?

Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Luton Town

How do you think Luton’s season will go?

I believe Luton will stay up this season. It may take a bit of time to get some points on the board, but I believe in the manager and players to get results soon.
